Into the Deep
There is something both peaceful and mysterious about looking into the ocean and knowing an entire world exists beneath its surface. Into the Deep captures a diver suspended in that moment, looking out towards the light as the underwater landscape disappears into the distance.
Seen from behind, the diver becomes part of the scene rather than simply its subject. Rising bubbles lead the eye towards the surface while shafts of sunlight break through the water, illuminating the otherwise quiet depths beyond.
Presented in monochrome, the photograph focuses on light, shadow, depth and atmosphere, giving the underwater world an almost dreamlike quality while keeping the human presence at the heart of the image.
For me, this piece represents curiosity, discovery and that instinct to keep exploring even when we cannot yet see what lies ahead.
