Ember Bloom — Acrylic & Permanent Marker on Canvas

A bold floral artwork created using acrylic paint and permanent markers on a deep 38mm gallery canvas.

Ember Bloom features a large flower emerging from a rich black background, with layers of fiery red, orange and warm golden tones running through the petals. Against the darkness, the colours appear almost illuminated, giving the flower a warm, glowing quality.

I built up the petals using layers of acrylic colour before adding permanent marker details to emphasise their shape, texture and individual lines. The combination of softer painted areas and stronger drawn marks gives the piece a distinctive illustrative finish.

The composition is deliberately simple, with the single flower taking centre stage against the dark background. A slender green stem provides the only contrasting colour and draws the eye back towards the bloom.

At 76 × 51cm, this is a substantial statement piece, while the 38mm gallery canvas gives it additional depth when displayed on a wall.
