Petals Adrift
There is something beautiful about the way water can transform even the simplest object. Petals Adrift captures fallen rose petals resting on the surface, carried gently by the smallest movement of the water.
The photograph focuses closely on a single petal as droplets gather across its surface and delicate ripples form around its edges. Other petals gradually disappear into the softly blurred water beyond, creating a wonderful sense of depth while keeping that one fleeting moment at the centre of the image.
Presented in monochrome, the familiar colour of the rose is taken away completely, allowing the texture of the petal, reflections, droplets and movement of the water to become the story instead.
For me, this piece represents beauty after the bloom, the passing of time and finding something beautiful even in the things we usually let go.
