Jellyfish Hoodie Under Chinatown Lights — Acrylic Paint & Permanent Markers on Canvas

Jellyfish Hoodie Under Chinatown Lights is a colourful contemporary piece created using acrylic paint and permanent markers on a standard 18mm canvas.

The painting features a hooded figure seen from behind, standing amongst the bright signs and buildings of Chinatown. Across the back of his hoodie is a large, colourful jellyfish, with its flowing tentacles extending down the figure and becoming the main focal point of the artwork.

I used a mixture of vivid reds, blues, yellows, pinks, greens and purples alongside deep areas of black to create the busy nighttime atmosphere. The surrounding signs, buildings and street details frame the figure while the bright jellyfish stands out against the dark hoodie.

The piece was built up using acrylic paint & permanent markers, allowing me to combine painted areas of colour with stronger lines and smaller hand-drawn details. I wanted the background to feel lively and full of colour while keeping the hooded figure and jellyfish at the centre of the composition.

At 76 × 51cm, it’s a large statement piece with a bold urban feel and plenty of smaller details to discover when viewed up close.
