Sweet Nostalgia – Monochrome Fine Art Photography
Sweet Nostalgia is a black and white fine art photograph inspired by those simple childhood moments that somehow stay with us for a lifetime. A traditional glass sweet jar filled with gummy bears takes centre stage, transforming an ordinary everyday object into a piece of nostalgic wall art.
There is something instantly familiar about seeing a jar filled to the top with sweets. It brings back memories of childhood treats, sweet shops and that little feeling of excitement when you were allowed to choose something special. I wanted this photograph to capture that feeling while giving it a more grown-up, contemporary style.
Photographed in monochrome, the absence of colour allows the shapes, textures and transparency of the gummy bears to become the focus. Light catches the glass jar and travels through the sweets, creating different shades of black, white and grey, while the softly blurred background gives the photograph depth and keeps the attention firmly on the subject.
Although playful in its inspiration, Sweet Nostalgia has been created as an elegant piece of monochrome home décor. Its neutral black and white palette makes it particularly suited to modern kitchens, dining spaces, cafés, home bars and contemporary interiors, while the nostalgic subject adds a little personality and humour.
